This Piece is called "Moon Dancer" It is a diversion from my kinetic sculptures. I had a kinetic design in mind and I may go on to make another Moon Dancer with kinetic features but I liked her so much just the way she is that I stopped at this point and hung her on the wall.
I wanted to challenge myself to build a piece with lots of texture. I accomplished this by using no new materials. Every piece of steel and brass in the piece came out of my scrap bucket. Forms were produced that I never would have come up with if I had made the parts specifically for this piece.
"Moon Dancer" is part of a series. They are made by hand from random parts, they are all different. The one you see in a gallery or museum may look slightly different than the ones shown on this page.
She is 46 inches high by 13 inches wide as shown. The moon is 7 inches in diameter and the dancer is 27 inches tall. The metal parts are mounted on dark glass or acrylic. Both pieces shown are the same size.
